Our staff has qualified the people listed below as deserving of help.  You can Help One.  Due to the urgency of the needs of the families below, we have already fronted them the money; we borrowed on your generosity. Tennishia
Tennishia is a single, 32 year old mother of two children, ages 3 and 15. She is working part time and does not receive any child support. Her car needed $500 in repairs, which has set her back on her monthly budget. She is behind $175 on last month’s rent after paying $350 in personal payment. She was also able to pay for this current month’s rent. She really appreciates the help to get fully current with her rent and keep everyone in their home.

Freda
Freda, age 55, worked diligently as a customer service representative for over 16 years. After being laid off 6 months ago, she realized how difficult the struggle for a new job was. Although she is very personable and has good skill sets, the replacement job still has not come, despite her efforts. Freda has received emergency assistance from an agency and she is working hard in our employment services program to find a job. She needs $200 on her back rent, as she has exhausted her savings. She has been renting from the same landlord at the same location for the past 12 years, so she knows what stability means - in both home and job.

Maria and Kyle
Maria and Kyle have a 14 month old beautiful baby girl. Maria had to quit her job shortly after Shiloh was born because her developmental delays were so significant. The child was diagnosed with Down Syndrome. They thought they could manage, knowing things would be tight for a couple of years, then Kyle lost his job. Kyle is back to work but is not making what he used to make. He picks up extra shifts when he can and is looking for another part time job. The family is behind on both their electric $78.17 and gas $116.75 for a total of $194.92 needed to get back even.

Sharon
Sharon had to put her husband into a nursing home. Maintaining the house was dependent upon both their incomes, but now the nursing home gets her all of her husbands check. She has a family member living with her now that is helping out, but he only works at a temporary service so the income isn't much. Sharon also cares for her disabled cousin. A lot falls on Sharon's plate and the gas bill fell through the cracks. Sharon needs $165.98 to keep the gas on. Sharon has never needed help before and is in a transitional period in her life.

Joshua
Joshua is very dependent upon our evening meal and our food pantry to meet some of his basic needs. He always has a smile on his face. He tries to budget his disability income very well and keeps all of his receipts but sometimes, when the weather gets extreme, Joshua has trouble managing larger bills. Tami
Tami just was laid off from her seasonal job at a tax agency. She has already found a new job at a fast food chain but the hours are only part time. Tami will be moved to full-time next month, but it is hard to because she gets called to her son's school a lot. He has been acting out every since he witnessed his father being murdered. Tami has two other children to care for, so the time in between jobs and with less hours caused her to get behind on rent. Tami is taking her son to therapy and doing everything she can to support him. Tami and her children need $250 to avoid eviction.

Linda
Linda has major health problems. She goes to dialysis, suffers from diabetes and heart failure. She has three children and tries to make less than $1000 a month stretch. The father of her children is abusive and she cannot reach out to him for help. Linda wants a better life for her kids. She is attending workshops through a job placement program for the disabled in hopes to one day work again. Linda's electricity was due for shut off last week. Ann
Ann is a single, 55 year old woman who has been out of work (cleans houses) for the last 4 months. She had an accident when she shut a storm window and it cut off the tip of her finger and she has been recovering. She is almost ready to resume work. Catessica
Catessica is on dialysis, she goes to treatment 3 times a week. She is on a wait list to get a renal transplant. Her son also has lots of medical issues and is at Children’s Mercy a lot. Her disability income is only $800 for herself and two children. Catessica was having trouble affording to get her car tag; the only parking at her residence is street parking which led to her getting multiple tickets from the parking patrol for not having tags. She was finally able to take care of that but then was unable to pay her rent. Catessica paid over half herself, but still needs $195 to get current.

Justin
Justin and his wife, Anaya, are in their twenties and have three children, ages 2, 4 and 5. Anaya is working 25+ hours a week and bringing in about $535 per month. Connie and William
Connie and William are in their forties. Connie is working, but had an unusual situation with her pay check funds which are put on a card. She did not get the credit for last month’s check. The card company is tracking and trying to find where the funds have gone. Meanwhile, she is shy one month of income to live on. William is seeking employment and is receiving unemployment of $130 a week. They are behind on rent and have paid $100 on last month’s rent and need an additional $282 to get that current. They have worked out a pay arrangement with the landlord to pay this current month’s rent. William was referred to and is now working in the Bishop Sullivan Center’s employment program.

Megan and Dennis

Brian
Brian lost both of his parents in a rather short period of time from one another. He first lost his father. Brian quit a good job in order to care for his terminal mother out of state. Brian has sold everything he can and does odd jobs to keep his home that he owns in midtown. He is a good guy that is caring towards his neighbors and his family. He is having a difficult time getting back on his feet and is over whelmed as he is still grieving the loss of his mother. He took care of all her medical and burial expenses alone. He has a steady job opportunity now, but won’t receive his first check until after the gas is due for shut off. To assist Brian, he needs $165.63 towards his gas.

Shannon
Shannon, a 29 year old single mother of 2 children was released from prison several months ago due to drug convictions and has been working so hard to get her life put back together. Right now her children are in a relative's custody, but Shannon is working very hard to have them return to her custody one day, as she builds stability and sobriety. She has been in our employment services program and continues in drug treatment. She knows that having a way to take care of herself and her family, and remaining drug free, are what she must do. Recently she was hired as a Housekeeper at a Crown Center area hotel. She says the work is hard but she is grateful to be able to make an honest living. She has moved into her own place but had forgotten about an old gas bill she had from several years back. This bill must be paid before she can establish service at her new address. Shannon needs $191.58 to pay off her old bill and establish service in her new, drug-free home.

Louise
Louise had foster cared for children most of her life, just recently stopping, although she is considering doing it again. She adopted one of the children who was severely disabled and is happy to call him her son. At the age of 23, his bright big smile is still infectious and she says he is rarely without it. Louise gets retirement income and her son gets a small disability check. The extreme heat this summer caused much larger bills. Debra

Judith
Judith is trying to move her disabled daughter from Texas. Her daughter had to have her hands and feet amputated after a complication with pneumonia. Judith had spent some time in Texas taking care of her and knows she will need intensive, continued care.
