Lift a Burden

Everyone can use a hand every now and then. These are people in your community who could use your help to Lift a Burden
TM off their shoulders. Our staff has qualified the people listed below as deserving of help. We are part of a city-wide computer system to make sure that people are not "double-dipping" from other agencies.

| Gatrice and Jacqueline are mother and daughter living in the same home. Jacqueline helps her elderly mother out and Gatrice helps Jacqueline care for the kids while she is at work. Jacqueline has two children, one of her boys has been very ill this past year. He has been undergoing a lot of tests that have been costly for the family, but the doctors still haven’t found what the root of the problem is. Due to the medical expenses and missed work they got behind on a gas bill and are seeking help with $173.00 to keep the service on. |

| Sebrina is a single mother with four children. Their gas is in danger of being disconnected. The gas is the source for their cooking and heating water for the home which she owns. Sebrina had some troubles a few months back and hasn’t caught up since. She is working and will be able to keep up with her utility in the future. She was able to pay half of the needed amount, but still needs $250 to get the service back on. |

She is returning to the workforce soon, now that she has had surgery but in the meantime is scheduled to have her electricity disconnected. Dasha and her two children need $184.00 to avoid disconnect. |

| Catherine has been battling stage 3 breast cancer. The cancer has possibly spread; she recently had thyroid surgery for growths there. Due to the cancer treatments causing problems with her mouth she had to have oral surgery, which is not covered by her insurance. Catherine is unable to pay her electric bill now. | Anitra needs help with the electric bill. She is going to school to get a degree in Children Psychology. Anitra is working part-time with the Kansas City School district and a single parent of 4 kids. She received a large bill along with a disconnection notice. Anitra stated, “Going to school was very tough to do as a single parent.” She decided to continue her education to be able to give her children more then what she had. eShe was only able to pay $150 towards bill and she still needs help with the last $200.
