Lift a Burden

Everyone can use a hand every now and then. These are people in your community who could use your help to Lift a BurdenTM off their shoulders. Our staff has qualified the people listed below as deserving of help. We are part of a city-wide computer system to make sure that people are not "double-dipping" from other agencies.




Luis
Luis has held the same job for over the last ten years but due to the economy he was recently laid off. His wife, Ruth is not able to work due to health issues. Since losing his job, Luis and Ruth have fallen behind on all of their bills. Luis is 60 so the job market is not working in his favor at the moment and Ruth has had to endure a lot of health issues recently that have bills to go along with them. The couple is behind on all of their utilities and are very close to having their water shut off. You can help Ruth and Luis keep their water on for $183, gas $41, and electric $48 for a total of $272.

Leticia
Leticia and Juan are both employed. Juan is currently working a part time job and has not been able to find a full time employment since he was laid off a little over 3 months ago. Juan has health issues and is not able to work a full 40 hours each week. He had an accident which causes him to have very bad body aches. Leticia recently had a hysterectomy about 3 months ago and was off of work for some time. They are trying to catch up on their bills and they have a disconnection notice on the electric bill for $280 and past due on their gas bill for $150. They are able to pay the gas bill and partial on the electric but need help with $180 towards the remaining balance to prevent disconnection.

Berenice
Berenice and Saul are parents of 2 children, Etzaid is 6 yrs old and Itzel is 9 months old. Saul was laid off from work about a month ago. Berenice is a stay at home mom. Saul worked for his company for about 1 year before he was laid off. He is currently searching for a job and also does odd jobs to keep income coming in the household. They need $154 to prevent disconnection of their gas service.

Senthenra
Senthenra is a single mother to DesJuan who is 12 years old. Senthenra is employed but has been in and out of hospital for the past six months because of diabetes, so she has not been able to work. She has had really high bills and has a turn off notice from the water service for $210.50. Senthenra was able to make a payment and needs help with the last $160.

Maria
Maria and Oswaldo are parents to 3 kids, Angel – 16, Alma – 12, and Diana – 7 years old. Maria mentioned that Angel is doing really well in school and he wants to graduate school soon to be able to help then out so that they don’t have to worry about getting their utilities shut off. Oswaldo was laid off from his job about 6 months ago and was unable to find a job until about a month ago through a temp agency. His income averages $1094 monthly. They need help with their water bill of $180.00 to keep their service on.

LaRai
LaRai recently left a violent situation in Michigan. She fled with her 6 year old daughter. LaRai does have some support in the Kansas City area, but no family. LaRai has a small income, as a nanny, but it doesn’t cover all the bills. She has only been in the area about 4 months and is still working on getting herself and daughter situated here. LaRai needs help with a water bill in the amount of $96.00.

Dreneisha
Dreneisha works as a pizza delivery driver. Due to being pregnant she is unable to work very many hours. Dreneisha has a one year old and due this spring with the new baby. Dreneisha does not have much of a support system. Her electricity is due for disconnect and is in need of $186.60 to keep service on.
