We believe every child in our community should own a pair of shoes.
However, thousands of children in Kansas City are wearing tattered or outgrown shoes, with no replacement in sight. They are embarrassed to go to school, unable to participate in gym class, and their feet are exposed to the elements.
Operation Heart and Sole provides new tennis shoes and socks to students who need them throughout the Kansas City Public School District. Many of these children are homeless, and all are living in poverty.
|These worn out shoes were four sizes too small for the student wearing them. He had been walking on the heels in order to not hurt his feet.||Each student gets to choose their own new socks. This student's joy was contagious while he was picking out his very own!||Choice is empowering. Students have enough shoe options that they can pick out and try on their favorite styles, just as if they were at a store!||School staff report that after students receive their shoes, they come to school with more confidence, focus, and are ready to learn.||No matter the age of the student, they make their gratitude known. Smiles, thank you notes, and hugs are always abound!|
Thanks to donations and community partnerships, 2,200 children have received shoes at the following schools:
JA Rogers Elementary
Wendell Phillips at Attucks Elementary
